About the course
Ayr Golf Club is on Edwards Street in Ayr, the main town of the Burdekin district about 85 kilometres south of Townsville. The surrounding district is sugar cane country and also grows mangoes, melons and other fruit and vegetables.
The Burdekin community directory listing for the club describes an 18-hole championship course of 5,861 metres. It is the home club of Karrie Webb, the former women's world number one and a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.
The club leases its grounds from Burdekin Shire Council. In February 2025 the council renewed the club's trustee lease for ten years, to February 2035, and renewed a freehold lease on a second lot for five years to the end of 2029, with an option for a further five years. In August 2026 the council approved an interest-free loan of about $54,700, repayable over seven years, to build a shed for the club's course maintenance machinery.
The club's listing promises a friendly welcome and says hire equipment is available for golfers without their own clubs. Green fees and competition days are not published online, so ring the clubhouse on (07) 4783 1296 before visiting to check tee times and fees.
