About the course
Lakelands Golf Club is at Merrimac, off Gooding Drive, roughly 10 minutes from Broadbeach and 15 minutes from Surfers Paradise. It was the first course in Australia to carry the Jack Nicklaus Signature label, and the club says Nicklaus searched for 25 years before settling on this site. Australian Golf Digest places it 56th in its Top 100 Australian courses.
The 18 holes play to par 72, and each nine has two par 5s, two par 3s and five par 4s. From the black tees the course measures 6,489 metres, with the blue tees at 6,142 metres, the whites at 5,814 metres and the red and yellow tees at 5,334 and 4,685 metres. The course rating is 74 from the blacks and 72 from the blues. Distance markers at 100, 150 and 200 metres are measured to the centre of the green.
- 14th: a 133-metre par 3 from the black tees, the hole the club uses for its signature-hole video.
- 17th: a 210-metre par 3 from the black tees.
- 18th: a 414-metre par 4 and the stroke index 1 hole, finishing below the clubhouse terrace.
The course is open to visitors, who book tee times online through the club's public booking calendar. Green fees include a shared motorised cart. Groups of 20 or more book through the corporate team, and date changes need 48 hours' notice. The club expects a round of 18 to take 4 hours 15 minutes. Neat dress applies everywhere, with no denim or cargo pants, and a collared shirt and enclosed shoes are required on the course.
Practice facilities include a full-length driving range, and PGA coaches work from the golf shop, which opens at 6am (7am on Tuesdays and public holidays). The clubhouse has locker rooms and the Signatures Restaurant and Bar, which serves breakfast from 9am and lunch until 3pm. It is open to the public and looks over the 10th hole and the 18th green toward the Gold Coast skyline.
