About the course

Monto Golf Club sits on 67 acres beside Rifle Range Road in Monto, in the North Burnett. Golf in the town began in 1933 on land across the road from the present turnoff on the Monto-Biloela highway. After a spell on a second site bounded by the Burnett Highway and Luthje's Road, the club leased its current ground from the Lands Department from 1 January 1936, and it secured freehold title in 1983. The layout follows what the club calls the McArthur Plan, drawn up by a course architect.

The greens were originally sand; the first grass green went in during 1965 and all nine were grassed by 1975; they have since been returfed with 328 couch. The 6th green is named after a long-serving greenkeeper who redesigned it. A dam on the 8th was built in 1975 and 1976, fairway irrigation followed in 1977, and since 2010 the course has been piped to use recycled water held in a dam above the 1st green.

The club is run by volunteers and is not staffed outside event times, so contact it through Facebook. Social players pay their green fee into an honesty box on the clubhouse verandah. The calendar has Sporters on Thursday afternoons and club days on Sundays; in 2026 the Monto Open Championship was played in March and the club championships in July.

The clubhouse dates from 1952 and has since gained a kitchen, cold room, air conditioning and a covered outdoor area.
