About the course
Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club is on Soorley Street in Tweed Heads South, just south of the Queensland border and the southern Gold Coast. The club was formed in 1927 after a public meeting at Coolangatta Town Hall the year before, and its first course was planned on Crown land where Gold Coast Airport now stands. Construction problems sent the committee looking for another site, and the first nine holes on the present land opened in December 1932. Further nines followed in 1951, 1974 and 1981, and the 101-hectare property is now a wildlife reserve. The club has hosted the Queensland Open and runs the Twin Towns Open.
The 36 holes make up two par-72 courses. The River Course measures 5,946 metres from the blue tees and the West Course 6,018 metres, with forward tees on both under 4,000 metres.
Visitors are welcome. The visitor rate is $80 for 18 holes and $45 for nine, with a $60 flat rate after 1pm (NSW time) and a $55 special on Mondays and Tuesdays. Bookings are essential, through the online public booking system or by phoning the pro shop. Visitor cart hire is $55 for 18 holes and $30 for nine, and hire clubs are available. Club competitions run every day, so non-members have no Saturday morning access and usually one course on Sundays. On course, shirts need collars and sleeves, and denim is not allowed.
The pro shop offers lessons and Trackman club fitting, and the Balcony Bar and Cafe overlooks the 18th greens and opens seven days from 7am.
