About the course
Chinderah Golf Course is at 100 Tweed Coast Road, Chinderah, on land the Brinsmead family once farmed for sugar cane. A driving range came first in the early 1990s, and the course followed as demand grew. A clubhouse replaced the original shipping-container pro shop in 1998, and with Federal Government help the course became the first in Australia to irrigate fully with treated town effluent from Kingscliff and Chinderah.
The 18 holes measure 3,373 metres for a par of 61, a mix of par 3s and par 4s on flat ground with dams, bunkers, mounds and swales. Greens are tiff-dwarf, oversown with Poa trivialis in winter. The flat layout suits beginners and social golfers, while accurate driving and iron play are needed to score.
The course is open to the public every day except Christmas Day and when it is too wet. On Monday and Thursday mornings a members' competition for golfers aged 50 and over has the course until 11.30am, and visitors in that age group with a Golf ID can join in. There are no tee time or cart bookings: play is first come, first served and starts from the 1st tee only. Green fees are $20 for 18 holes and $18 for nine, with electric carts charged on top, and hire equipment must be back by 6pm. Alcohol is banned on the property, large party groups are not accepted, and there is no dress code beyond a recommendation for enclosed shoes.
The driving range opens from 6am with buckets of about 40 or 80 balls. The pro shop sells equipment, regrips clubs overnight and offers professional coaching, along with pies, snacks and soft drinks.
