About the course
Balaklava Golf Club is on Golf Course Road, 3 kilometres east of Balaklava and about 100 kilometres north of Adelaide in the state's lower north. The club has been part of the town since 1923, and the present course has been developed over the past 35 years, with hundreds of trees planted that now hold plenty of birdlife.
The 18-hole course measures 5,987 metres, with fairways and greens laid out through undulating sand hills. It is fully watered year round from a bore on the property, and the greens and fairways are kept entirely by volunteers.
Visitors pay $30 per person for the day, by cash or card at the Vendi machine; EFTPOS is available only on competition days when the clubhouse is open. Carts are $40 for 18 holes and must be booked well ahead, generally with more than 24 hours' notice, by phoning (08) 8862 1594 or texting 0438 286 275. Groups are welcome. Full members of a set list of clubs, including Clare, Burra, Kapunda, Waikerie, Loxton and North Adelaide, have reciprocal rights, with conditions varying by club.
The clubhouse has a bar and a deck used for social evenings, and the club runs events such as ambrose days through the year. The local racing club, gliding club and pistol range are nearby.
