About the course
Highercombe Golf & Country Club is on Paracombe Road at Paracombe in the Adelaide Hills, about 25 kilometres from the Adelaide city centre and ten minutes from Tea Tree Gully. The club was established in 1967, and the course dates from 1968.
The 18-hole course is a par 70 of 5,591 metres for men and a par 72 of 5,118 metres for women. Its tree-lined fairways cross undulating rural land, with stands of poplars, pines, eucalypts and other native plants. Several dams store water for summer irrigation and attract plenty of birdlife. The professional course record is 62.
- 1st: a 377-metre par 4 that climbs to an elevated green, a reminder that the course is in the foothills.
- 9th: the hardest hole on the men's card, a 430-metre par 4.
- 17th: the longest hole, a 503-metre par 5 with a fairway sloping right to left towards the trees.
The club describes itself as a people's club and is open to the public seven days a week, with bookings required. Booking through the pro shop is necessary on weekends and public holidays, and Saturday morning tee times are limited. Tee times can be booked online or on (08) 8380 5266. Groups and corporate days are welcome, and the club can help with competition formats, tee times, carts and catering.
The pro shop is open seven days and sells equipment and apparel, with club fitting, repairs such as reshafting and regripping, and lessons. The licensed clubhouse bar serves snacks and light meals daily, an outdoor barbecue in the pergola can be arranged for groups, and the clubrooms are hired out for functions.
