About the course

Broome Golf Club is at 223 Port Drive on the peninsula end of Broome, on the edge of the Roebuck Bay sand dunes. It was founded in 1967 as the Roebuck Bay Golf Club and took its current name in 1992. The first clubhouse was a corrugated iron shed below the dunes; a clubhouse on top of the dunes followed in 1970, and it was demolished in 2020 to make way for the current $5.5 million clubhouse and function centre, which looks out over Roebuck Bay and the Indian Ocean.

For many years Broome had sand fairways and sand greens. From 1989 the club worked to use treated water from the nearby wastewater facility, fairway reticulation began in 1992, and the fully grassed 18-hole course was officially opened in 1998.

The course covers less than 30 hectares and measures just under 6000 metres, with a slope rating of 128. There are no sand bunkers or water hazards, but narrow fairways, dense bush and out of bounds along several boundaries keep it testing. The front nine has two par 5s, and the back nine holds seven of the eight raised greens. Holes 11 and 12 are strong par 4s, and the par 3 15th plays along a narrow chute to a small green raised two metres.

The club is open to the public, with the course open from 7am to 5.30pm (last tee off 3.30pm). Book online, by phone or at the golf shop; online rates are $50 for 18 holes and $35 for nine. Electric carts are limited, so book ahead. Weekly competitions include men's Scroungers on Wednesdays from noon, women's on Thursdays from 2pm, a Friday sundowner and a Saturday mixed 18-hole event.

The pro shop is open seven days from 7am to 4pm and the bar from 8am until close.
