About the course
Karratha Golf Course is a City of Karratha public course on Searipple Road, run for the City by the Karratha Country Club Inc, which manages both public and competition golf. The golf club began as the Dampier Golf Club at Happy Valley, Dampier, in 1967, moved to Karratha in 1972 when the country club was formed, and was renamed the Karratha Golf Club in 1982.
The course was established in 1972 to a design by Murray Dawes, and over the years it has had oiled, blue metal and sand greens. A redesign by Richard Chamberlain was completed in 2022, turning it into a fully grassed links-style course with undulating greens and no bunkers. It measures 5931 metres for men and 5160 metres for women, so the challenge comes more from the greens and pin positions than from length. The opening hole is a 330-metre par 4 that doglegs right, with the green hidden from the elevated tee.
The course is open to the public seven days a week from 6.30am. Green fees are $45 for 18 holes and $35 for nine. A nine-hole electric cart is $30, a push buggy $10 and a club set (left-handed available) from $20. Tee times are booked on TeeNet. Dress is relaxed: enclosed shoes and neat casual clothes. Club competitions are 18 holes on Monday and Wednesday and nine holes on Thursday and Friday; anyone with a Golflink number can play, but only club members are eligible for prizes. A nine-hole Sunday Scroungers team event is also open to the public.
The golf shop opens from 6.30am to 6pm daily and stocks balls, gloves, clubs and apparel. There is a driving range with artificial mats and distance targets (a 1.25-litre bucket of balls is $15), and a putting green and chipping area beside the eastern car park. North West Brewing Co provides meals at the clubhouse on Friday nights.
