About the course

Carnarvon Golf Club plays on Massey Bay Road in Carnarvon. The club describes its setting with some humour: sunshine every day, plenty of wind and dust, and fairways that were once mostly sand, to the point that it used to claim the world's largest bunker over about 80 per cent of the course. A number of fairways have been grassed in recent years.

The greens are sand and are raked before and after putting, and the club jokes that they run at 0.5 on the Stimpmeter. The club describes it as an 18-hole sand green course, but par is not published on the club's site.

The club runs weekly competitions, and new members can hand in a membership form at any competition day. Its main event is the Carnarvon Open, held over a weekend in early August (1 and 2 August in 2026). The Open has an A grade stroke event for men and women, B grade stableford for men and women and C grade stableford for men, and entrants need an Australian handicap and membership of a recognised club unless invited by the committee. The 2026 entry fee was $150, covering both days and the main meals, with a nine-hole scrounger event on the Friday afternoon for $10. Nominations are taken through MiTournament or by email.

The clubhouse has EFTPOS and hosts the Open's meals, Calcutta auction and presentations. Green fees for casual visitors are not published online; contact the club at carnarvongolfclubwa@gmail.com.
