About the course

Inverell Golf Club was formed in May 1907, when golf in the town was played on six holes at what is now Lions Park beside the Macintyre River. The club faded during the First World War and was revived in 1925 on Ryan's Paddock, its present site on Bundarra Road, and the course officially opened on 29 August 1925. Extra land bought in 1928 now holds the 7th, 8th and 9th holes and the clubhouse. Grass greens were built between 1962 and 1966, along with a water scheme that still supplies them.

From the white and blue tees the 18-hole course is par 70; the 7th and 13th play as par 5s from the red tees. The course has a ravine on the 5th, a creek and dams on several holes, a number of elevated and tiered greens and plenty of out of bounds. - 3rd: a 489-metre par 5 from the white tees, with a two-tiered green that slopes from back to front. - 7th: rated the hardest hole, a 415-metre par 4 with out of bounds down the right. - 10th: the longest hole, a 541-metre par 5. - 15th: the signature hole, a 448-metre par 5 with views from the championship tee. - 18th: a 288-metre par 4 played over a dam, with two bunkers and out of bounds behind the green.

The club does not currently have a golf professional. It is staffed from Tuesday to Sunday, opening at 8am or 8:30am and closing between 4pm and 7:30pm depending on the day and the season, and times can change in wet weather. On Mondays the club is closed and golfers pay through the honour box. The club's contact for visitors is 02 6722 1574. Its website also lists a menu and a function centre.
