About the course
Murray Downs Golf & Country Club is at Murray Downs on the NSW bank of the Murray River, about five minutes over the bridge from Swan Hill. It is built on part of the historic Murray Downs sheep station. Work on the course started in October 1988 and it was formally opened in March 1991. It was designed by Ted Parslow (E. & G. Parslow and Associates), who built it around playing to position, with holes meant to suit long hitters, average players and beginners alike.
The 18-hole, par 72 course measures 6,197 metres from the back tees, with shorter sets at 6,054 and 5,829 metres, and is framed by mallee plains and river red gums. The greens are undulating and water is in play on several holes. The course is a former Victorian PGA course of the year and hosted the NSW Open in 2024.
- 5th: the signature hole, a par 3 of up to 194 metres with a long carry over water to the green.
- 11th: a 127-metre par 3, the shortest hole from the back tees.
- 15th: a 169-metre par 3.
Public tee times are booked online. The 2026 green fees are $70 for 18 holes and $40 for nine, with a $35 rate for members of the club's reciprocal clubs. Cart hire is $60, a pull buggy $5 and bringing your own cart $5 a day. The yearly calendar includes the Reciprocal and Seniors tournaments in February, the River Murray Challenge in March, the Golden Putter events in June, a 36-hole two-person ambrose in August and the Women's Classic in October.
The pro shop is open seven days, with longer hours during daylight saving, and offers lessons, club repairs and a range of equipment and clothing. The clubhouse opens every day from 10am and looks out over the course. Fairways Bistro and the cafe serve meals and coffee, and the club also has three floodlit bowling greens and a courtesy bus on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
