About the course

Kerang Golf and Bowls Club is 2 kilometres east of the Kerang town centre on the Kerang-Koondrook Road, in the Gannawarra Shire. Kerang sits on the Murray Valley Highway, about 130 kilometres north of Bendigo and 100 kilometres west of Echuca, with Cohuna and Koondrook-Barham each 28 kilometres away. The district is irrigation farming country beside the Ramsar-listed Kerang Lakes wetlands.

Golf began here in 1908 on a 12-hole course where the showgrounds are now. The club moved to its present site in 1957 with 18 sand greens and a new layout, and replaced them progressively with grass greens, the last in 1967. Flood irrigation gave way to spray irrigation in 2006 and 2007. Today the 18 holes have grass greens and fully irrigated Santa Ana couch fairways, and the club website carries an overview and drone flyover of every hole. Andrew Spitty holds the course record of 66.

Visitors are welcome. Green fees are $30 for 18 holes and $20 for nine, paid in cash at the green fees box or by bank transfer, and players should carry the receipt. Carts must be arranged and paid for before play, at $30 for 18 holes and $15 for nine for non-members; pull buggies are free. Competitions are open to anyone with a GolfLink number: women play on Wednesdays and Saturdays and men on Thursdays (registration from noon) and Saturdays.

The club also has two bowling greens with 14 rinks, and a Friday social gathering from 5pm to about 7pm that visitors can join. Self-contained RVs can stay on course for up to three nights by arrangement.
