About the course
Port Lincoln Golf Club was founded in 1915 as a six-hole course at Kirton Point, which later grew to nine holes. The club moved to its present site at Boston, on the Flinders Highway on the outskirts of Port Lincoln, in 1927, and the course was reconfigured into its current layout in the late 1980s. The club is member-owned and marked its centenary with a history book, sold at the bar.
The 18-hole course is a par 72 of 5,805 metres for men and 5,310 metres for women, with short walks from green to tee. It is fully irrigated: a stormwater capture scheme cut the club's use of mains water and helped fund a Rain Bird irrigation upgrade and new pumps. The greens are bentgrass, the fairways mainly couch and kikuyu, and there are 11 bunkers, with eucalypts and pines lining the holes. There are no forced water carries, but a large irrigation dam beside the 18th collects stray shots from the 10th, 17th and 18th. A gazebo with a barbecue stands at the shared tee for the 5th, 8th and 12th.
Visitors pay a $40 daily green fee at the honesty box at the front of the clubhouse, by cash or card, and students pay $10 any day. Unless you have a handicap and are entering the competition, the course is closed before 2.30pm on Wednesdays, 11.30am on Thursdays and 2.30pm on Saturdays. Start from the 1st tee unless officials direct otherwise. Carts cost $40 for 18 holes and $25 for nine and pull buggies $5; book carts, buggies and hire clubs at plgcrentals.com.au.
Balls and tees are sold at the bar or from a vending machine near the green fee box. The Greenside Bistro has a bar and a verandah overlooking the course, and seats 150 for functions.
