About the course

Port Victoria Golf Club sits on the Spencer Gulf coast at Port Victoria on the Yorke Peninsula, and plays as a traditional sand-scrape links. Golf in the town dates from May 1925, when a nine-hole layout was opened in the Parklands near the oval and extended to 18 holes later that year, with a small office brought from Balgowan serving as the first clubhouse. The present links were laid out in 1952 on land first leased and later bought by the club, with professional Rufus Stewart advising on the design. The club affiliated with the state association in February 1953 and held its first Men's Open Championship in July 1955.

There are two courses. The 18-hole winter course is a par 70 measuring 5,504 metres from the blue men's tees and 4,769 metres from the red women's tees, and is open from April to September; the club notes that the shifting coastal winds can help or hurt a score. The nine-hole par 3 course, redesigned and reopened in November 2024, is a par 27 of about 937 metres that follows the coast before turning inland to the clubhouse, and is open all year.

Visitors are welcome. Green fees are $10 for the 18-hole course and $5 for the par 3, paid before teeing off through the club's online card portal or in cash at the green-fee box at the clubhouse, as the course runs on an honour system. Clubs and balls are free to use on the par 3; there are no hire carts. Groups are limited to four at busy times.

  • Winter: competitions on Wednesdays and Saturdays, names in before the 12.30pm hit-off, with an Ambrose and club tea on the first Saturday of the month.
  • Summer: par 3 competitions on Friday evenings from November to February, 5pm tee-off, not played when the forecast is 35 degrees or more.

The clubhouse serves food and drink and is open on event days and selected weekends; groups can ask for it to be opened outside competition times.
