About the course
Wool Bay Golf Club was founded in 1948 and sits on the western side of Wool Bay, a small coastal town between Stansbury and Coobowie on the southern Yorke Peninsula, about two and a half hours' drive from Adelaide.
The course is nine holes played as 18, non-irrigated, with broad fairways and sand scrapes in place of grass greens. Over 18 holes it measures 5,076 metres, par 67 for men and 73 for women. The longest hole on the card is the 8th and 17th at 446 metres, and the shortest the 4th and 13th at 130 metres; the round closes with a 161-metre 18th. Unlike many peninsula scrape courses, it is playable all year: the dry summer grass gives extra run, while in the cooler, wetter months it plays more like a watered course.
Visitors are welcome. Club competitions are held on Tuesdays and Saturdays from noon, and visitors who want to join should arrive 30 minutes early; the club has also added a Saturday nine-hole competition. At other times visitors can play by paying the $10 green fee per round into the honesty box at the clubhouse door. Members of the club receive reciprocal playing rights at many Yorke Peninsula courses, and the club welcomes volunteers to help look after the course. The clubhouse also hosts social events, including Friday night eight ball and Kelly pool.
