About the course
Ardrossan Golf Club plays in the town parklands of Ardrossan on Yorke Peninsula. Golf in the town predates the club: before 1924 locals played a few makeshift holes near Dinham's Hill. In 1924 the District Council of Yorke Peninsula let the club use the fenced cliff-top parklands in front of the town, where a basic six-hole course, later nine, was played with a tin shed for a clubhouse. In 1927 members voted to move to the present parkland site just north of the town, where new links and a small clubhouse opened that year. A deep creek crossing the course came into play on the 1st and 8th.
In the early 1960s the club leased adjoining scrub to extend to 18 holes, and bought a strip on the eastern boundary that now holds the 16th, 17th and 18th. In the 1990s the course was greened with recycled water stored in three dams along the creek, holes 7 to 9 were reshaped, and the creek in front of the 1st was reshaped and grassed.
Today it is an 18-hole sand scrape course with watered fairways and tees. It is fairly short and gently undulating: 5,048 metres at par 70 from the blue men's tees and 4,903 metres at par 72 from the red women's tees.
Visitors are welcome seven days a week. The daily green fee is $25, paid before teeing off at an honesty box when the clubhouse is unattended, so bring the correct change. Members' guests pay $15, and visitors can play in competitions for $15 including the green fee:
- Tuesday: women's 18 holes from March to September (10am hit off), 12 holes from October to February (9am)
- Wednesday: mixed 12 holes all year, 12 noon
- Saturday: mixed 18 holes all year, 12 noon
The club has no carts for hire. Groups are limited to four players, and everyone is asked to carry a sand bucket.
