About the course

Spalding Park Golf Club is on Green Street in the Geraldton suburb of Spalding, below the Moresby Ranges and next to a nature reserve. It began in 1937 as the Champion Bay Golf Club and was incorporated and renamed Spalding Park in 1964. In its early years the course had sand greens and was only played from May to October. Reticulation started in 1967 with water pumped from the Chapman River, the 1976 Spalding Park Open was played on nine grass and nine sand greens, and by 1977 all 18 greens and fairways were grassed and reticulated. An automated irrigation system followed in the mid-1990s.

The course is 18 holes, par 72 and 5,871 metres, with a slope rating of 124. Tight, sloping couch fairways are lined with trees and bush, and bunkers and the prevailing wind add to the test. The greens are saltine, a salt-tolerant grass suited to the Geraldton climate. The course was named Regional Golf Course of the Year at the 2018 Western Australian Golf Industry Awards.

Visitors can play any day, but casual play is closed while competitions are on, so call the pro shop on (08) 9923 2700 to check availability before heading out. Green fees are $35 for 18 holes and $30 for nine.

The club has a pro shop with lessons from its golf professional, a golf simulator, a junior program, and a clubhouse available for functions, catering and corporate golf days.
