About the course
Geraldton Golf Club is on Pass Street, close to the centre of Geraldton, with views to the Moresby Ranges. The club formed in 1926 and played at Majors Hill and inside the racecourse and showgrounds at Utakarra Oval before moving to its present site in 1932. For decades the course had dirt fairways and sand greens and could only be played in winter. During the Second World War the Army took over the club, and the clubhouse housed a dental unit. Grass greens arrived in the late 1970s, after a member found a grass that tolerated the salty bore water then used for irrigation.
Today the 18-hole course has saltene greens and couch fairways lined with gum trees. It plays as a par 71 for men and par 72 for women, measuring 5,928 metres from the blue tees, and the southerly breeze is a regular factor.
- 6th: a 394-metre par 4 into the southerly, rated the hardest hole on the course.
- 11th: a 417-metre par 4 for men (par 5 for women), with out of bounds left and a mound to clear off the tee.
- 16th: at 504 metres, the longest par 5, finishing uphill to a domed green.
Visitors are welcome and can book online or call the pro shop on (08) 9964 1911. Weekday green fees are $45 for 18 holes and $38 for nine, with twilight rates from 3pm in winter and 4pm in summer. Monday, Friday and Sunday are the easiest days for visitors; on other days aim for before midday or after 3.30pm. Carts cost $49 for 18 holes and $39 for nine (riders 21 and over with a licence), and club sets are $25 and $18.
The driving range opens seven days from 8am in summer with no booking needed, beside a short-game area with a chipping green and two putting greens. A PGA professional offers lessons, and the clubhouse serves Friday night meals.
