About the course
Riverview Country Club is on the Hassell Highway at Bakers Junction, King River, less than 20 minutes from the centre of Albany. Its 18-hole sand green course is set in native bush, with views across farmland towards Albany.
The club grew out of a few sand greens that the Slee family put in on Elizabeth Farm at Lower King around 1960 so their sons could practise. These became a nine-hole public course, and a club was formally established in 1963. When that land was sold for housing in 1966, members played on Jim Taylor's property in Bon Accord Road while they looked for a permanent home, and in 1968 they settled on a timber reserve at Bakers Junction. Course designer Murray Dawson inspected the site and laid out the holes, and members built the first nine largely by hand, starting play there in 1970. A second nine followed as membership grew, and the clubhouse was extended several times, with the latest additions opened in 1982.
The course is open every day of the year and no booking is needed. Green fees are $20 for 18 holes and $10 for nine, paid at the pay station on the right-hand side of the clubhouse by QR code or cash, and juniors aged 16 and under play free with a paying adult. There are no clubs or carts for hire. Scrapers are provided at each green, and because volunteers maintain the course, players are asked to carry a sand bucket and fill divots. Fairway markers show 150 metres (white) and 100 metres (blue) to the centre of the green.
Competition golf is played three times a week: - Sunday: 18 holes, tee off at noon (men's winter season March to November, mixed in summer). - Wednesday: men's 18 holes, tee off 9.30am in winter. - Friday: women's Scroungers all year, tee off when ready.
