About the course
Walpole Country Club is at 127 Rest Point Road in Walpole, surrounded by karri forest with views over the inlet and rivers, and kangaroos are often seen on the course. It is run by volunteers with no paid staff, and offers golf and bowls.
The 18-hole course has kikuyu fairways and synthetic greens. The greens were laid between November 2015 and February 2016 and opened by the Hon. Terry Redman MLA, with visiting professionals Wayne Smith, Stephen Dartnell and Shani Waugh playing the course. The club believes it was the first volunteer country club in Australia with 18 synthetic greens. A spherical infill helps them hold approach shots and putt like grass, and they need no watering, which matters so close to the Walpole-Nornalup marine park and national parks. Reticulation around the greens was completed in time for the March 2022 Pioneer Cup. From the men's tees the course is 5,627 metres, par 73, and from the women's tees 5,031 metres, also par 73.
Visitors are welcome, either in their own group or joining the field. The green fee is $20 per person per day, plus a competition fee if entering a competition. Golf carts are allowed, and clubs can be hired through Rest Point Holiday Village. The regular program includes:
- Tuesday: mixed scroungers at 1pm, all year.
- Thursday: ladies' day at 11am, April to October.
- Friday: mixed nine holes at 3pm, November to March.
- Sunday: men's day, March to October.
The main event is the Engel Pioneer Cup on the third weekend in March. The clubrooms hold up to 240 people, with a commercial kitchen, outdoor seating, a barbecue and a children's playground, and the synthetic bowling green was replaced in 2021.
