About the course
Aberdeen Golf Club plays over Jefferson Park, Aberdeen's main sporting and recreation reserve, which sits on a bend of the Hunter River beside the town. Aberdeen is on the New England Highway between Scone and Muswellbrook in the Upper Hunter. Golf has a long history in the park: council records list the golf club's inauguration in 1929, the Aberdeen Golf Links in operation by September 1930 and a golf club building constructed in late 1933.
The course is a nine-hole layout with 18 tee positions, so the second nine of a full round is played from alternate tees, and it plays to par 70. It has turf tees and grass greens. The greens are narrow and elongated, which puts a premium on accurate approach shots. The holes take up more than half of Jefferson Park, running along its northern, north-western and eastern edges around the central sports ovals, on free-draining river-flat soil. The layout suits golfers of most abilities, and there are golf practice nets in the park.
Council's draft masterplan for Jefferson Park, prepared in 2024, proposes reorienting the course around a new internal loop road, adding timber fairway traps and tree planting, a golf starters pavilion and an irrigation dam to supply recycled water.
Visitors can turn up and play alongside local members on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with no tee time needed on those days. Green fees and clubhouse facilities are not published online, so contact the club by email at aberdeengolfclub2336@gmail.com or through its Facebook page before travelling.
