About the course

Merriwa Golf Club is part of the Merriwa Sports Club, formed when the golf club amalgamated with the Merriwa Bowling Club, and sits on King George V Avenue beside the Golden Highway at Merriwa in the Upper Hunter. The town lies roughly halfway between Newcastle and Dubbo, close to Goulburn River National Park.

The course has nine holes with sand greens and is played twice from different tees for an 18-hole par of 72, measuring 5,966 metres from the blue tees and 5,280 metres from the red. There are no bunkers or water hazards; the challenge is keeping the ball inside the out of bounds lines and away from the trees, and the course is an easy walk. Farm animals and native wildlife are often seen along the way.

Visitors are welcome every day for a casual round, with green fees left as a donation in the honesty box. Club members featured among the division winners at the 2025 NSW Women's Sand Greens Championship. The sports club has a Chinese restaurant serving Chinese and Australian meals; current opening hours are not published online, and the club can be reached on 02 6548 2028.
