About the course

Karuah Golf Club is on Tarean Road at Karuah, on the northern shore of Port Stephens, about 20 minutes' drive from the Hexham Bridge. It is a low-cost club run by volunteers.

The course has nine tree-lined holes, played twice for a par 71 round of 5,137 metres from the blue tees and 4,764 metres from the red. It is short, but working the ball both ways and controlling the height of approach shots into the greens are needed. The nine opens with a 445-metre par 5 and includes two short par 3s of 136 and 117 metres.

Players of any standard are welcome. Competitions:

  • Tuesday: ladies and veterans.
  • Saturday: medley competition.
  • Friday: a nine-hole stroke event from midday, with the club open from 3pm.

On other days an honesty box is used, and rounds can also be paid by tap-and-pay. Carts are available on a tap-and-pay system. Current green fees are not published online with a recent date. The club runs the Karuah Open each April.

The clubhouse has a full kitchen, a bar and barbecue facilities, and can be hired for birthdays, corporate events and other functions. Social group bookings are made through the club.
