About the course

Walcha Golf Club is on the Oxley Highway a few minutes from the town of Walcha in the New England region, about an hour east of Tamworth and 45 minutes from Armidale. In April 2024 the club staged the inaugural World Sand Greens Championship for Women, a two-day event that drew 59 professionals from countries including Korea, Japan, Thailand, Colombia, Wales and the USA; Lydia Hall of Wales won after starting the final day five shots off the lead. In March 2025 the club hosted the NSW Veterans Week of Golf for the first time.

The course has 18 established, landscaped holes with sand greens, laid out in New England pasture country, and plays to par 70 for men and par 71 for women. It is maintained by a team of volunteers.

Social golfers are welcome seven days a week from daylight to dusk, and no booking is needed. Social green fees are $25 for 18 holes and $12.50 for nine, paid at the honesty box on the northern side of the clubhouse, opposite the 1st tee. Visitors with a current Golf Australia handicap can enter the open competitions:

  • Wednesday: open competition, 9am for 9.30am, $30 for visitors.
  • Saturday: nine-hole members' competition from 8.30am.
  • Sunday: open competition, 11am for 11.30am, $30 for visitors.

The clubhouse opens only during competitions, with a full bar on Wednesdays from 8.30am to 4pm, Saturdays from 8.30am to 11.30am and Sundays from 10am to 5pm. It is one of the larger function rooms in Walcha, seating more than 100, and can be booked for weddings and other events on 02 6777 2143. Members also have use of the club's practice facilities.
