About the course
Tamworth Golf Club is on Mahony Avenue, central to the city of Tamworth. The club dates from July 1899, when a newspaper notice brought local golfers together and the first officials were elected. Its first course was in East Tamworth; it moved to West Tamworth in 1903 and, after several more moves, settled on its present site in 1923. Grass greens arrived in 1934, and the clubhouse was extended in the 1980s and 1990s.
The 18-hole course has tree-lined fairways and plays to par 70 for men and 72 for women. Golf NSW lists 5,932 metres from the blue tees and 5,310 metres from the red, and describes a course that is generous off the tee, with water on a couple of holes, shallow bunkers and lightly sloping greens. Both nines mix long and short holes, including par 5s over 500 metres and two par 3s over 170 metres.
The course is open seven days and visitors can enter all competitions. The visitor green fee is $45 for 18 holes and $27 for nine, with carts extra. Tee times are booked online or through the pro shop.
- Monday: seniors and veterans
- Tuesday: fourball and individual events
- Wednesday and Thursday: individual stableford
- Friday: veterans
- Saturday: competitions, with the monthly medal on the first Saturday
- Sunday: medley events in the morning and a monthly mixed fourball in the afternoon
A nine-hole twilight competition runs from the October long weekend to about the end of March. Collared shirts and golf shoes are required on the course; denim, cargo pants and steel spikes are not permitted.
The pro shop stocks the major brands, offers Trackman club fitting and lessons with the resident professional, and hires clubs, carts and buggies. The clubhouse has a bar, a large function room, a children's play area and a restaurant overlooking the course.
