About the course
Longyard Golf is on Greg Norman Drive, on the southern side of Tamworth just off the New England Highway (Goonoo Goonoo Road), a few minutes from the town centre. The course was designed by Greg Norman and Bob Harrison and hosted the 2002 NSW Masters. It is owned by a private company and run as a public access course.
The 18-hole layout plays to par 72 and measures 6,239 metres for men and 5,339 metres for women, with Santa Ana couch fairways and bent grass greens. Golf NSW lists the blue tees at 6,233 metres with a slope rating of 133. The fairways are irrigated and undulating, and the local rules cover a tunnel between the 3rd and 4th holes and a windmill between the 9th and 10th that is played as part of the course. Kangaroos are common, and the local rules allow relief from kangaroo marks in bunkers.
The course is open to the public and social golf is available seven days a week. Competitions run Tuesday to Sunday, with veterans' events on Tuesday and Thursday, and Longyard describes itself as a medley club. Tee times can be booked online or by phone, and carts and equipment can be hired. Current visitor green fees are not published online; the most recent fee schedule on the website dates from July 2025.
The facilities include what the club describes as Tamworth's only driving range, with an undercover bay shed, a practice putting green and a pro shop offering lessons for individuals and groups. The Mill, the licensed on-site tavern, opens from 9am Tuesday to Sunday and has a deck overlooking the course, a function room seating 50 and a fenced children's play area. Thorny's Putt-Putt mini golf is on the same site.
