About the course
Hughenden Golf Club is a volunteer-run club on the Hann Highway at Hughenden, in the Flinders area of North West Queensland. It hosted the Outback Queensland Masters in 2021, and each year it stages the Hughenden Open Golf Championship, a 36-hole event played over two days in the cooler months.
The course has red dirt natural fairways and sand greens, which put the emphasis on the short game and make for a slower, more deliberate pace of play. Oiled sand greens are common across the region because grass is hard and costly to keep alive in the dry climate, and the regional tourism body suggests packing a sand wedge for chipping and long approaches.
Visitors can join the social competitions. The clubhouse is the social hub after a round, with a bar, food and refreshments, and lawns and gardens, and the club's tourism listing says it welcomes people with access needs.
The number of holes, green fees and competition days are not published online, so phone the club on (07) 4741 1195 before visiting.
