About the course
Copperclub is the golf club at The Dunes, Port Hughes, on Yorke Peninsula. Its course was designed by Greg Norman and runs through coastal sand dunes, with views over Spencer Gulf to Cape Elizabeth. The club is run by the Copperclub Golf and Community Association, and its members have access to Greg Norman courses through his reciprocal club and resort program.
It is a nine-hole links that can be played as nine or 18, from back tees for a sterner test or forward tees for an easier round. The greens are heavily contoured, with ridges, swales and run-off areas, and large sandy waste bunkers feature on several holes. Lengths below are from the gold tees.
- 3rd: a 294-metre par 4 with a big waste bunker on the left and bunkers short right of the green, where the choice of line depends on the wind.
- 6th: rated the hardest hole, a 354-metre par 4 along a hogsback fairway to a raised green with a steep drop on the right.
- 7th: a 462-metre par 5 with out of bounds on the left and a semi-blind second shot to a horseshoe-shaped green.
- 9th: a 364-metre par 4 to a raised green of about 1,200 square metres with a false front.
The course is open to the public. The walk-in green fee is $65 for 18 holes and $50 for nine. Tee times can be booked online or through the golf shop on 08 8825 2001, and all players check in at the golf shop before their round. Motorised carts from a fleet of 12 cost $50 for 18 holes and $35 for nine, and clubs can be hired.
The golf shop at The Deck Bar opens from 8.30am on Mondays, 8am from Tuesday to Friday and 7.30am at weekends, closing at 4pm. There is a short-game range on the south side of the clubhouse, with buckets of 30 balls for $10 for visitors, and a putting and chipping green with a bunker. PGA professional Matt Deans gives lessons by appointment, and drinks and snacks are served at The Deck Bar.
