About the course
Aston Hills Golf Club is on Bald Hills Road at Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills, and carries two long histories. Golf at Mount Barker began informally in 1879, when flour miller John Dunn invited players onto his estate, The Laurels, while Hahndorf Golf Club was founded in 1892. The Mount Barker club played on the Warden family's land on Wellington Road from 1912, bought 288 acres near Wistow in 1966 and moved to its present site in 1981. After Hahndorf sold its course, the two clubs merged in September 2007 as Mount Barker-Hahndorf Golf Club, and a 2017 partnership with the neighbouring Aston Hills housing development brought the current name.
The 18-hole course is a par 70 of about 5,614 metres on gently undulating ground lined with gum trees. Ponds, creeks and bunkers come into play through the round, the fairways are couch, and the club calls it the only Adelaide Hills course without any hills. Native wildlife often grazes beside the fairways.
Visitors are welcome and can book tee times online. For the rest of 2026 green fees are $65 for 18 holes and $40 for nine, with a weekday seniors rate of $50 (card required). From 1 January 2027 a weekend and public holiday rate of $75 and a twilight rate are introduced. Neat golf attire is expected: a collared shirt, tailored shorts with socks or trousers, and neat jeans are acceptable, and every player must carry a sand bucket.
Practice facilities include a practice fairway for shots of up to 180 metres (range balls from the pro shop), a chipping green and a putting green. PGA professional Ben Traeger runs the pro shop, with lessons from $50, club fitting and repairs. The licensed clubhouse is open to the public: the bar opens 10am to 6pm daily, lunch is served Tuesday to Sunday from 10.30am to 3pm, and dinner on Friday nights.
Green fees
Seniors $50; from 1 Jan 2027 weekend $75, twilight $50. Juniors (17 and under) $20 for 18 holes, $15 for 9 holes (same in 2026 and from 1 January 2027).
