About the course
Kapunda Golf Club is on Hancock Road, Kapunda, about 75 kilometres from Adelaide. The club was formed in the mid-1950s on a course on Bethel Road, then played at Allendale until the mid-1960s. In 1965 the Kapunda District Council bought the present site from S Kidman & Co; members built fairways, sand scrapes and an iron shed clubhouse in 1966, and competition moved there in 1967. A brick clubhouse followed in 1977. From 2001 the course was redeveloped with volunteer labour and a council loan, replacing the scrapes with bent grass greens, and in 2006 the club won the SA Great Regional Sports Award.
The course is nine holes with 18 separate tee blocks, par 73 for the round with a course rating of 72. Water hazards and a watercourse that crosses several fairways come into play, with extra bunkers added since the redevelopment, and the 18th has been lengthened into a par 4. Volunteers do much of the upkeep.
Green fee players can use the course from 1pm on Thursdays and from 3pm on Saturdays. The fee is $25 a day, $20 when playing with a member and $15 for juniors under 16. Visitors are welcome at the Thursday mixed competition, a shotgun start, and the Saturday competition tees off between 6.30am and 8am and again from 11am to midday. A nine-hole twilight Stableford runs on Wednesdays from 4pm in daylight saving months, $10 for non-members. The club phone, (08) 8566 2711, is staffed on competition days only.
Buggy hire, course bookings and catering for visiting groups can be arranged, and the clubhouse is available for hire. Cabins and caravan sites sit next to the course.
Green fees
Per day; green fee play Thu from 1pm and Sat from 3pm; with member $20. Juniors under 16 $15 per day.
