About the course

Tanunda Pines Golf Club is at 39 Pioneer Avenue, Rowland Flat, in the Barossa Valley beside the Novotel Barossa Valley Resort. The earliest record of the course dates from 1913, and the club moved to the Pioneer Avenue site in 1939, growing from nine holes to 18 over the years. It held its first pro-am in 1979, with Wayne Grady and Ian Baker-Finch in the field. In the late 1990s an agreement with the resort's developer produced the present clubhouse and pro shop and a change of routing. The members' club was sold in 2003 to Seven Under Pty Ltd, which gave it its current name, and in October 2022 the course passed to Balmoral Resort (Australia), which has begun a multi-year upgrade.

The par 72 layout measures about 6,145 metres from the black tees, with tree-lined fairways, several two-tiered greens and views to the Barossa Ranges and nearby vineyards.

  • 9th: the longest hole at 504 metres, a par 5 curving left with pines down the right.
  • 12th: a 386-metre par 4 that dips and then climbs to a long approach at a two-tiered green.
  • 13th: a 179-metre par 3 from an elevated tee among the gums, dropping well down to the green.
  • 17th: stroke index 1, a 394-metre par 4 with a downhill approach to a fast green.

The public can play seven days, subject to competitions: after 9am on Wednesdays, and off the 10th tee after 11.15am on Saturdays. Green fees are $45 for 18 holes and $30 for nine on weekdays, $55 and $35 on weekends, and $20 for unlimited holes after 3pm. Juniors under 18 pay $20. Book online after registering, or call (08) 8563 1200. Carts are $45 for 18 holes and $30 for nine.

The aqua driving range stretches more than 250 metres over water, with floating balls from $8 for 30, and opens every day except Christmas Day. PGA coaching is available through the pro shop, and the Lookout Cafe serves breakfast and lunch to golfers and the public.
