About the course
Naracoorte Golf Club was formed in 1927 on its present site, the "Parklands" on Stewart Terrace, with 32 foundation members. A nine-hole course opened in April 1928 with a lean-to shed as the clubhouse, and a new clubhouse followed in 1934. The course closed during the Second World War and reopened in 1946, was extended to 18 holes in 1951, and its sand scrapes were replaced with grass greens, officially opened in May 1958. Automatic watering came in 1982, and a major course and irrigation upgrade, including two 200,000-litre storage tanks, was completed in 2019.
The course sits on a rise on the northern edge of town, a short distance from the Riddoch Highway, overlooking the surrounding flats. It is a par 72 parkland layout of 5,949 metres for men and 5,292 metres (also par 72) for women, with four par 5s, four par 3s and ten par 4s. Gum trees line the holes, the fully watered fairways are mostly couch, the greens are large, and most holes are bunkered.
- 5th: the longest par 3 at 180 metres, with two bunkers on the right and one on the left.
- 6th: the longest par 5 at 517 metres, a dogleg left around large gums.
- 9th: a 317-metre par 4 with a quarry across most of the fairway at about 210 metres.
- 10th: a 363-metre par 4 to a small sloping green, rated the hardest hole.
- 18th: a 443-metre par 5 with a double dogleg, uphill all the way.
Visitors can book a round online or by phoning the club. Seven tees are within 100 metres of the clubhouse, and the club offers special rates for short games. The driving range has all-weather mats and three levels of grass tees and is open seven days to members and visitors. The clubhouse bar opens on competition days, and catering can be arranged for groups.
