About the course
Royal Adelaide Golf Club, known to its members as Seaton, was formed by 32 foundation members at the Largs Pier Hotel on 11 August 1892. The club first played in the North Parklands, moved to a leased course at Glenelg in 1896 (extended to 18 holes in 1898), then bought sandhill and swamp country near Grange in 1904. The Seaton links opened on 30 June 1906, with the Grange railway line crossing the property and carrying members to the course. King George V granted the Royal prefix in 1923, and after Dr Alister MacKenzie's visit in 1926 the dunes were brought into the layout. The links has hosted nine Australian Opens and sixteen Australian Amateur Championships.
The course is a traditional links on open ground with several lines of play on most holes, less than two kilometres from the coast and under 20 minutes from the city. It is par 72 from the men's blue, white and red tees, and measures 6,552 metres from the blue. Summer brings firm, fast conditions, while spring brings native rough and changeable winds. The 3rd is a par 4 of 269 metres from the blue tees, and the closing hole a 382-metre par 4.
Royal Adelaide is a private club. Members of reciprocal clubs can play, and a limited number of interstate and overseas golfers can play by submitting the club's online booking enquiry. It is a walking course, with motorised carts only for golfers holding a medical certificate, and hire equipment must be booked. Rates may vary at busy times such as Gather Round and LIV Golf Adelaide. Bookings for February and March 2027 are on hold while the club hosts the Women's Australian Open.
Practice facilities include a driving range, short game areas, a putting green and an undercover teaching studio, opened in 2023, with Trackman and a putting studio. The pro shop, which non-members can use, opens 30 minutes before the first tee time.
