About the course

The Grange Golf Club occupies reclaimed sandy swampland on the southern edge of West Lakes. Golf was first played here around 1910 by the McCoy family on their estate, The Pinery, whose homestead later formed part of the clubhouse. Local golfers leased about 120 acres in 1926, and play began in 1927 on 13 rough holes built by members' working bees. Victorian architect Vern Morcom redesigned the original course in the mid 1950s and then designed a second course, the East, which opened in May 1967. A young Greg Norman won his first significant tournament on the East Course at the 1976 West Lakes Classic.

The Grange is the only club in South Australia with two courses. The West was redesigned in 2007 by Mike Clayton Golf Designs, with wide corridors lined by Callitris and Monterey pines, native grasses and sandy waste areas. The East was completely redeveloped by Greg Norman Golf Course Design in 2012, with flatter ground on the front nine and greens set into surrounding undulations. The club hosts LIV Golf Adelaide on a composite course, which visitors can play on select dates.

The Grange is a members' club. Visitors request tee times through an online form, giving GolfLink numbers; members of reciprocal clubs upload letters of introduction. Available windows are Sunday after 11.30am, Monday after 9am, Tuesday after 1pm, Wednesday after 2pm, and Thursday and Friday after 10.30am, subject to availability. Hire clubs are $85 a set and motorised carts $65.

Practice facilities include a driving range, practice nets, three putting greens and a chipping green, and PGA coaches give lessons. The bistro serves lunch from Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 3pm, and the bar is open daily from 9.30am to 6pm.
