About the course
The Pat GC is the public golf complex at West Beach Parks on Military Road, West Beach. It has two courses, the 18-hole Patawalonga Course and The Short Course, plus a TrackMan driving range, and is home to Westward Ho Golf Club, whose members play both layouts. Golf Australia named it the 2026 Most Outstanding Club, Facility or Place to Play in the metropolitan category.
The Patawalonga Course is a par 72 with four par 3s and four par 5s. Bunkering is heavy throughout, water comes into play on the 3rd, 4th, 15th and 17th, and the breeze is a factor on several holes. From the back markers:
- 1st: a 368-metre par 4, rated the hardest hole and usually played into the wind.
- 4th: the first par 5, 471 metres with water down the right and a small bunkered green.
- 7th: a 496-metre par 5 doglegging right, with bunkers left of and behind the green.
- 18th: a 300-metre par 4 doglegging right to a long, narrow green.
The Short Course is 15 holes and about 2,500 metres, par 50, made up of ten par 3s and five par 4s with kikuyu fairways and small greens. The club has announced it will be extended to 18 holes and renamed The Short Course 18.
The complex is open to the public every day from dawn until 6pm in autumn and winter and 7pm in spring and summer. On the Patawalonga Course adults pay $39 for 18 holes and $32 for nine on weekdays, and $49 on weekends and public holidays; weekday twilight after 3pm is $32. The Short Course is $28 on weekdays and needs no booking. Carts are $40 on weekdays. Tee times can be booked online or through Golf Central on (08) 8356 4811, and walk-ins are welcome.
The range has 15 bays, all fitted with TrackMan, with 50 balls for $12. Coaching is available, there is a pro shop, and the Bar & Eatery overlooks the course, open daily from 10am to 5pm.
