About the course

West Lakes Golf Club is at 26 Lochside Drive, West Lakes, on Adelaide's sand belt about 20 minutes' drive from the city centre. The club dates from 1951, when members started weekend working bees on the course, and the first club championships were played in 1952. The first clubhouse was an old railway caboose; the bar, lounge, dining room and offices were completed in 1975 and a dining atrium added in 1995. In 2021 members voted to fund a multi-year transformation programme for the club and course.

The course is 18 holes, 5,632 metres and par 70, a tight layout last redesigned in early 2011 and playable in all weather. The closing hole is a 354-metre par 4 with bunkers down the right of the fairway, water that catches an over-long drive, and deep bunkers either side of the green.

Non-members can play as visitors after 12 noon, subject to availability, for $90. Members' guests playing with a member pay $60 for 18 holes and $40 for nine. All bookings go through the pro shop on (08) 8268 3054. Motorised carts are $45 for 18 holes and $30 for nine, pull buggies $5, and hire sets $25 or $45. The club expects golfers to be smartly and neatly dressed.

The pro shop opens from 6am daily, its resident professionals give lessons, and warm-up facilities are available before a round. The clubhouse bar opens seven days from 10am, with lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and weekends. During daylight saving there is a Wednesday twilight competition and a Wednesday night dinner.
