About the course
Thaxted Park Golf Club is in Woodcroft, in Adelaide's southern suburbs, about 20 kilometres from the CBD near the entrance to the southern wine region. The club opened officially in 1964 on a course built by its foundation members, which saw only minor changes until 2015. Golf architects Crafter and Mogford have since redeveloped the front nine. The club has won the Simpson Cup four times.
The 18-hole, par 70 course runs over rolling hills with views to the sea, and its holes point in every direction. Tree-lined fairways are crossed by creeks and dams that draw plenty of wildlife, with irrigated Santa Ana fairways and bent greens.
Bookings are essential and are made through the pro shop by phone or email. Visitors pay $45 for 18 holes and $30 for nine from Monday to Friday, and $55 and $35 on Sundays and public holidays, with junior, pensioner and student rates. On Saturdays, players with a Golf Australia handicap can join the competition field between 11.30am and 1pm for $60 including entry, and public twilight golf from 3.30pm is $40 with no handicap needed. Carts cost visitors $50 for 18 holes and $30 for nine, and pull buggies $8 and $5.
The golf shop, open seven days, stocks clubs, apparel and shoes, offers custom fitting and has lessons for adults and juniors, with ladies' and junior programs. The Park bistro overlooks the course, and the clubrooms host weddings, functions and corporate days.
