About the course

The Vines Golf Club of Reynella is at 1 Pine Road, Woodcroft, about 30 minutes from the centre of Adelaide, with native bush reserves on three sides of the course. The club began on 16 April 1925 as The Marino Golf Club, playing a nine-hole links on a farm at Marino. In 1963 it bought land at Reynella for an 18-hole course, holding its first official competition there on 20 June 1964, the year the clubhouse was finished. Member volunteers did much of the work: a six-year re-turfing programme began in 1996, and in 1999 a donation of 100,000 cubic metres of soil was used to reshape slopes and holes into the current layout. The club took its present name in 1998 to end confusion about where it was.

The course measures 6,031 metres at par 71 from the black tees (slope 126) and 5,186 metres at par 72 from the red tees. Fairways are Santa Ana couch and the greens are bent grass. Undulating, contoured fairways, water and mature red gums, some about 100 years old, mean driver is not always the right club. Stormwater harvesting and a 45-megalitre dam supply irrigation, and kangaroos and koalas are often seen near the fairways. The club plans a staged course upgrade over the next few years, starting with new irrigation.

Visitors register online as a public member and then book tee times through the club's booking calendar, where the green fee is $85 for 18 holes and $55 for nine; public tee times are mostly on Sundays, so ring (08) 8381 1822 about other days.

The pro shop has a PGA professional offering lessons, clinics and club fitting, plus a golf simulator. Practice facilities include a range, nets, a chipping green with a bunker and a putting green. The Bistro serves lunch from Tuesday to Sunday, 11.30am to 2.30pm, breakfast on weekends and dinner on Thursday and Friday evenings, with a full bar and a shaded verandah over the course.
