About the course

Glenelg Golf Club is on James Melrose Road at Novar Gardens, beside Adelaide Airport and about 15 minutes from the CBD. A group of Glenelg businessmen began playing among the sandhills here in 1926 and bought 174 acres that September. The club was formed on 23 February 1927, the Governor, Sir Tom Bridges, opened the links on 21 May 1927, and all 18 holes were in play early in 1928. Herbert 'Cargie' Rymill's original layout lasted about 20 years, until land taken for the new airport forced a redesign by Vern Morcom of Kingston Heath, engaged in 1947. From 1998 architects Neil Crafter and Bob Tuohy restored the course's links character, converted the greens to bent grass and re-established native vegetation, and Crafter + Mogford updated it again in 2025. The club has hosted the South Australian Open and the 1986 Australian Amateur.

The course covers 49 hectares of couch fairways, pine-covered sand ridges, wetlands and revetted-edge bunkers. It is a par 71 of 6,026 metres from the men's members' tees and 6,234 metres from the championship tees, and the prevailing wind is a south-westerly.

  • 3rd: the longest par 3, about 200 metres to an elevated green on a sand ridge.
  • 10th: a drive through tall pines over a crest, then down to a three-level green.
  • 12th: a short par 5 from the highest tee on the course, with views to the coast and the Mount Lofty Ranges.

Glenelg is a private club. Green fees from 1 April 2026 are $150 for member-introduced guests, $400 for locals with a Golf Australia handicap introduced by the general manager, and $580 for international visitors.
