About the course
Hopetoun Golf Club is on the edge of Hopetoun, at the corner of the Hopetoun-Rainbow Road and Golf Links Road. The club was formed in 1897, after roughly 20 years of golf being played in the area, and counts itself as the oldest club in the Wimmera and north of the Dividing Range and the fifth oldest in country Victoria. It was the eighth club to join the Victorian Golf Association as a founding member, held its first annual tournament in 1911 and hosted the Victorian Sandgreen Championships in 1997.
The course is a gently undulating 18-hole layout with sand greens. It is a winter course: the club's 2026 program opened with a Saturday stableford on 21 March and closed with the men's closing day on 29 August.
Visitors are welcome. The green fee is $5, and entry to a competition is $10. Club competitions are played on Saturdays from midday and on Mondays from 9am, and the season also takes in pennant matches against other Wimmera clubs, club championships and a 54-hole event played over four rounds. The annual tournament is held on the third weekend of August. In 2026 it ran from 13 to 16 August:
- Thursday and Friday: ladies' and men's four-ball stablefords.
- Saturday: an 18-hole stroke round for men and women.
- Sunday: a nine-hole junior event and a four-person ambrose.
Off the course there is a nine-hole mini golf course, the club runs junior programs, and the clubhouse can be hired for functions.
