About the course

Nhill Golf Club is on the Nhill-Netherby Road just north of Nhill, a town about halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide. Golf came to the district in 1893, when J. W. Trumble returned from a visit to England, and the club was formally founded on 10 May 1898; in 1903 it became the 17th club to join the Victorian Golf Association. After two earlier sites, the club bought 105 acres north of town in 1925 and opened its first 18-hole course there on 4 July that year. Members laid it out, with M. A. Morcom of Sandringham advising on the bunkering. Between 1992 and 1994 members replaced the sand scrapes with 18 grass greens.

The course is flat to slightly undulating, with large grass greens, tree-lined fairways and shaped bunkers, all fully watered from bore and recycled water. Men play 5692 metres to par 70 and women 5167 metres. The wind from the west across the plains is the main defence, and the course record is 67.

  • 6th: the longest hole, a 489-metre par 5.
  • 12th: a 178-metre par 3, the longest of the short holes.
  • 16th: a 403-metre par 4, index 1 for men.

Visitors pay $30 for a day of unlimited golf or $20 for nine holes, and juniors under 16 play free. Carts can be hired for $30 by contacting the club. Nhill has hosted the VGA Senior Amateur Championships, State Veterans teams events and Wimmera Pennant finals.

The air-conditioned clubhouse has a full kitchen, barbecue facilities, a bar and seating for more than 100, and is available for weddings and functions.
