About the course
Port Fairy Golf Links is at 101 Skenes Road, Port Fairy, a little more than three hours' drive west of Melbourne. The 18-hole natural links course winds through sand dunes beside the Southern Ocean, with views back to the town and its lighthouse.
From the men's tees the hole lengths add up to about 5890 metres, with a par of 72 made up of two par 3s and two par 5s on each nine. The back nine runs closest to the sea: - 8th: a downhill 122-metre par 3 to a steep, fast green ringed by deep bunkers, where the wind decides the club. - 12th: a 465-metre par 5 that follows the ocean from tee to green, with out of bounds on the right. - 14th: the club's signature hole, a 408-metre par 4 falling steeply from the men's tee towards a green backed by the ocean, with Mills Reef to the right and a sea wind across the approach. - 15th: a 178-metre par 3 rebuilt in 2006 to hug the coastline, and the hardest of the short holes.
Visitors can play at most times, although access is limited on competition days and during major events, and bookings are essential. Players with a valid Golf Link number can join competition rounds. Online booking requires registering as a public member first. Green fees from 1 November 2025 are $90 for 18 holes and $50 for nine, and juniors under 18 pay $45 and $35, with a $10 surcharge on public holidays. Carts cost $55 for 18 holes and $35 for nine, a pull buggy $5, and hire clubs with buggy $35 or $25. Dress is neat casual: tailored shorts or slacks, collared or neat T-shirts and golf shoes on the course, with no singlets, tracksuits or thongs. Under the club's heat policy, the course closes if the temperature on site reaches 37 degrees.
The clubhouse is fully licensed with a bar, and BYO alcohol is not permitted on the course. Bookings and enquiries go through the pro shop.
