About the course

Terang Golf Club is in the centre of Terang in Victoria's Western District, beside the Princes Highway on the way to Warrnambool. Melbourne is about two hours away and Warrnambool half an hour. The course shares a sports complex with the town's bowling greens. The club's history page reproduces an early newspaper report on the building of its new course in the Lake Terang area, when members used the bowling club's pavilion as their clubhouse.

The 18-hole course plays to par 72. The front nine is gently undulating and the back nine flat, with tree-lined, watered couch fairways, grass greens and just six bunkers, so it plays well in every season. Several holes run beside the highway, which is out of bounds. - 1st: plays longer than its length, with out of bounds right and behind an elevated green guarded by two front bunkers. - 4th: a par 5 over the hill, with the highway out of bounds all the way along. - 16th: a straight par 4 that usually plays into the prevailing south-westerly, with a mound short of the green that makes it look closer than it is. - 18th: a par 4 dogleg left around a water hazard, where club choice off the tee matters.

Visitors are welcome and can generally turn up and play. Green fees are $40 for adults and $20 for juniors. Visitors can enter competitions by paying a $10 competition fee plus a half green fee of $20, or $27 in total for 12-hole events. Competition tee times are booked through the club's 1golf page. The weekly program has included a 12-hole stableford with a 9am shotgun start on Tuesday, an all-day stableford over 9 or 18 holes on Thursday, a nine-hole twilight on Friday, an all-day competition on Saturday and a 12-hole social on Sunday. Two Vendi Golf carts can be booked or hired.
