About the course
Spring Valley Golf Club is a private club at 619 Heatherton Road, Clayton South, on the sandbelt about 30 minutes south-east of Melbourne's CBD. The idea came from members of the Forest Hills public course at Dandenong in 1947, and the club was formed in September 1948 with 33 foundation members. Much of the early work on the course and clubhouse was done by volunteer working bees.
The 18-hole course was designed by H.V. (Vern) Morcom and measures 6161 metres from the championship tees. It has hosted a number of professional and amateur events, and the club fields teams in Golf Victoria pennant and interclub competition.
Public tee times are listed on the club's online booking calendar, and corporate golf days are held mainly on Mondays and Fridays, with Tuesdays and Sunday afternoons available on request. Green fees are not published on the website. The dress code asks for the neat golf clothing expected at leading private clubs, and members must brief their guests on it beforehand.
The practice facilities are extensive: a 300-metre driving range with a 1200-square-metre turf tee and an indoor teaching studio with Trackman, a second 250-metre irons-only range with turf and mat tees, a short game area with bunkers and a full practice hole, and a large putting green in front of the clubhouse. The ranges host the Victorian Institute of Sport and Golf Victoria elite programs run by the Marty Joyce Golf Academy, and a Titleist National Fitting Centre sits on the southern range. The Golf Service Centre has PGA professionals for lessons and clinics, sells equipment, handles club fitting and repairs, and hires motorised carts and pull buggies. The clubhouse Terrace Cafe serves food seven days a week.
