About the course

Yarra Yarra Golf Club began in 1898 as Eaglemont Golf Club, playing a rough nine holes on rented land at Eaglemont, and admitted men and women as equal members from the outset. Around 1910 it bought land near Rosanna station, took the name Yarra Yarra and opened there in 1911. In February 1927 the club bought land at East Bentleigh, in the heart of the Sandbelt, after losing players in the mid-1920s to clubs on better ground.

The course at 567 Warrigal Road was designed by Alex Russell, who had formed a partnership with Dr Alister MacKenzie in 1926, and it remains substantially as he laid it out.

  • 1st: a 330-metre par 4 opener, best driven just right of centre near the fairway bunkers.
  • 11th: a 167-metre par 3 to a heavily bunkered green that often plays into the wind.
  • 18th: a 447-metre par 5 finish, reachable in two for long hitters, with deep bunkers narrowing the drive and a green sloping sharply from back to front.

Yarra Yarra is a private members' club. It accepts interstate and international golfers, including New Zealand residents at the interstate rate, without a letter of introduction, for a limited number of visitor tee times on most days; the full green fee is paid when booking through the club's visitor booking site. Members of reciprocal clubs can play under the reciprocal arrangement, and groups of more than eight should contact the pro shop. Visitors should check the dress standards before arriving.

The club has been rebuilding its practice facilities, with undercover hitting and teaching bays with Toptracer, a remodelled driving range with target greens, and new chipping, bunker and putting areas. The clubhouse has six function rooms, including the Eaglemont and Rosanna rooms overlooking the course.
