About the course

Boyup Brook Golf Club is on Six Mile Road, about 10 km from the centre of Boyup Brook and around 280 km from Perth. Golf in the district began on farm courses: the Whistler family laid out nine holes at their property, Brancaster, after a 1912 trip home that included a round at St Andrews, and a nine-hole town course followed around 1929. After the war, members of both clubs agreed at a public meeting in April 1952 to form a district club, the Upper Blackwood Golf Club, on 130 acres offered on Six Mile Road. The new course and clubhouse were officially opened on 8 August 1954, and the club took the Boyup Brook name in 1973.

The course is a par 72 of about 5,934 metres from the men's tees, with sand greens and undulating, tree-lined fairways. Several holes start through a narrow chute of trees, and out of bounds runs along a number of them. Holes to note:

  • 5th: a 389-metre par 4 from a raised tee down a sloping fairway, with a drain in front of the green.
  • 7th: a 479-metre par 5 with a dam in the middle of the fairway and out of bounds down the left.
  • 10th: a 476-metre par 5 with a double dogleg to a green tucked into heavy brush.
  • 18th: a 397-metre par 4 and the hardest hole on the card for men.

Visitors are welcome to play during the week and are asked to pay a $10 green fee before going out. The season runs from late April to mid-October, with ladies' competitions on Thursdays (names in by 11am for an 11.30am start) and mixed competitions on Saturdays (names in by midday for a 12.30pm start), which are open to all.

The clubhouse is fully licensed, and a basic meal is available after the round.
