About the course
Collie Golf Club is on Mungalup Road, Collie, in the Collie River Valley about two hours' drive south of Perth. The course is set in forest and bordered by the Collie River, which runs beside the third and eighth fairways.
The 18-hole course is fully reticulated, with lush fairways and fast grass greens. It is a par 72 of 6,004 metres for men and 5,164 metres for women, and an easy walk with few hills apart from the climb from the eighth green to the ninth tee. Hazards are few, but the fairways are tree-lined, most doglegs bend right to left, and the pond on the 16th takes plenty of balls in winter. Holes to note:
- 3rd: a 506-metre par 5 with a double dogleg left and the river waiting for an overcooked draw.
- 5th: a 396-metre par 4 and the hardest hole on the card for men.
- 8th: a 326-metre par 4 that dips into a valley and climbs to the green, with the river along the left.
Kangaroos live on the course and are often seen in mobs on the 10th fairway, and spring brings wildflowers, including many orchids.
Visitors can play casually at any time but must give way to competitions. Green fees are $40 for 18 holes and $30 for nine, or $25 for visitors playing in a competition, paid on an honour basis into the box on the clubhouse verandah or by bank transfer. Competitions run on Tuesday, Wednesday (women), Thursday (nine-hole Scroungers) and Saturday. Five motorised carts hire for $40 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, with at least 24 hours' notice. A collared shirt, dress shorts or trousers, shoes and socks are the minimum dress standard. The club runs two open stableford events, the Riverside Open in mid-March and the Summer Open in early December.
There is a practice putting green in front of the clubhouse and a driving range to the west with a chipping and bunker area. The licensed clubhouse has a bar, deck, change rooms and function space, and the bar opens on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
