About the course
Canterbury Public Golf Course is a nine-hole public course at Beverly Hills in Sydney's south-west, about three minutes from Roselands Shopping Centre. It is a Canterbury Bankstown City Council course, run and maintained on the council's behalf by the Geoff Scott golf group, whose general manager is a life member of the Australian PGA.
The layout plays to par 33 for nine holes and leans heavily on short holes, with four par 3s, four par 4s and a single par 5. Elevated and sloping greens are a recurring theme.
- 1st: a 168-metre par 3 played up to a raised green.
- 3rd: a 110-metre par 3 uphill, where anything short can roll back down the slope.
- 6th: rated the hardest hole, a par 4 up a rise with a slight dogleg right and a long second to a narrow, raised green.
- 9th: a tight dogleg-right par 4 with trees on the right and bunkers on the left.
The course is open to everyone seven days a week from 6am until dusk, every day except Christmas Day. There are no bookings: golfers arrive, pay and play, and groups of 16 or more are asked to contact the club first. Weekday green fees are $35 for 18 holes and $25 for nine, rising to $40 and $30 on weekends and public holidays, with concessions for seniors and children 15 and under and a $20 weekday twilight rate. Hire clubs with a pull buggy cost $20, and motorised carts are $35 for nine holes or $45 for 18. Dogs are not allowed on the course.
The pro shop runs as a discount golf store carrying major club and apparel brands, and offers club repairs and custom fitting. Individual lessons with a PGA professional, group tuition and playing lessons can be booked through the shop.
