About the course
Strathfield Golf Club sits beside the Cooks River on the edge of Strathfield, about 12 kilometres west of the Sydney CBD and 2 kilometres from Sydney Olympic Park. An earlier Strathfield club played near Enfield from 1897 until it disbanded in 1907. The present club formed in October 1931 with nine holes on land leased from Strathfield Council and the state railways, and later grew to 18 holes.
From 2016 the club sold its old clubhouse site and practice fairway to fund a new clubhouse, opened in November 2018 where the old 5th green had been, and a course renovation led by architect Jim Wilcher of Golf by Design. The works rebuilt 14 greens, 16 tees and 38 bunkers and reshaped several fairways. The course now plays as a par 71 of 5,899 metres from the blue tees, 5,670 from the white and 5,051 from the red. The Cooks River runs through the middle of the layout, crossed six times and in play on three other holes, and the bentgrass greens are often raised and ringed by bunkers.
Non-members can play every day except Saturday once the morning competition has finished, with public times from late morning on most weekdays and from early afternoon on Sundays. Green fees are $80 for 18 holes on weekdays and $100 on weekends on application, with cheaper twilight rates after 3pm and discounts for students. Tee times are booked online after registering, or through the pro shop. Visitors with a handicap can join the weekday open medley competitions. Electric carts cost $50 for 18 holes, pull buggies $5 and club sets $25. The dress code is strictly enforced, and there is no BYO alcohol.
The pro shop opens at 6am and runs the Strathfield Golf Academy, with PGA coaching and Foresight golf simulators. There is a practice putting and chipping area. The clubhouse has Bistro 18, open for lunch daily and dinner Wednesday to Saturday, plus a cafe and an early-opening kiosk.
